Contact Energy’s Green Office Project
Contact Energy knows the importance of looking after the environment. As part of their initiative to help their customers to reduce carbon emissions by one million tonnes by 2014, they decided to get their staff on board by sending out Kowhai seedlings to help launch their Green Office project.
THE CHALLENGE:
- To get more than 800 Kowhai seedlings to destinations all over New Zealand alive and healthy. For the Kowhais, it was life or death. For Orangebox, it was the kind of challenge we relish.
THE SOLUTION:
- We hand-assembled specially designed corrugated cardboard boxes containing live Kowhai seedlings in moist potting mix, and fastened them with string to make them secure for their journey.
- The seedlings were organised and packed into labelled boxes at Orangebox HQ before being dispatched to individual Contact staff members.
- Timing was important, not only for the vulnerable seedlings, but also because they needed to arrive in time for the launch of Contact’s Green Office initiative.
THE OUTCOME:
- The seedlings arrived alive, on time and on budget. Contact Energy management was thrilled and the staff responded to the well-executed initiative. The care taken in packing them meant that there were no casualties along the way.
“Orangebox did a superb job of packaging and dispatching Kowhai seedlings to our 876 employees as part of our Green Office project in March 2007. The seedlings arrived beautifully boxed and labelled exactly when they were supposed to – we couldn’t have done it without them!”
